Here’s how you can help with the database – upload your Reidseltz line gedcom. If you have Administrator privileges you can go to Admin – Import/Export >>GEDCOM Import. Do NOT add a new tree. Please choose “Append all records” (just under “Replace” and on the far right) Also choose: “Upper case all surnames,” “Do not recalculate Living Flag,” “Import media if present,” “Import latitude/longitude data if present.” In other words, everything except “Replace only if newer.”

If you don’t have Administrator privileges (you’ll know, if you try to go to Admin and can’t) and want to upload your own gedcom, let me know and I’ll change your setup.

If you just don’t want to try at all – send me your gedcom and I’ll upload it. Remember, Riedseltz line only. To get the data that is currently in the database I coded entries in my RootsMagic program with a field for Riedseltz. I added that field to each person who lived in, or was descended from someone who lived in, Riedseltz. For spouses, I added “spouse” in the notes section. It’s an extra step that wasn’t necessary! I could have just added the Riedseltz field.

I haven’t looked at the entries closely but I *think* the images did not transfer but the references did.

Right now, I’m interested in getting as many Riedseltz people in the program as possible. After that, there will be matching, combining, etc. It’s likely that may be easier to do if the data is downloaded, sorted in a genealogy program and uploaded.

MEDIA (To the database)

Don’t upload any other than what may or may not go along with your gedcom. I had a problem with the viewer before. I want to make sure that isn’t a problem before we start adding images of any kind manually.

I am going to add a links page. Please send links to your web-sites or other sites specifically about Riedseltz first.

DISCUSSION

Like I said – as long as I was re-doing, I decided to choose this option from FrontPage. All I did was upload it – no doubt it needs tweaked. Please poke around, see how (IF) it works. Does anyone have experience here???

SPREADSHEET

I just took the merged spreadsheet (which means nothing to anyone but me, I imagine) and posted it. This is not to say this is the only way to use the spreadsheet or the data in it. But, for now, the page is there and can be used for the spreadsheet as Mary sees fit.

WHAT I HOPE CAN HAPPEN

I hope we can save a lot of data entry by getting the gedcoms uploaded.

I hope we can add images of the source documents (this may, or may not be, a copyright issue).

I hope we can use the individuals added through the gedcom upload to facilitate adding the data Mary has extracted from the documents!

I hope some of you will be able to help with proofing, connecting, linking, etc. in the database.

And, I hope to hell it all works!!!

WHAT I’D LIKE TO DO IN THE FUTURE

Well, if it works this time and we can all get around in the TNG program well enough to make it worthwhile, I’d like to add short bios on each of the main Riedseltz families. And, on those of us who are working to bring this project together.

I’d like to see some “narrative” about the Riedseltz project.
